About

Chilatchee Creek Campground is nestled on its namesake creek at scenic Dannelly Reservoir in Alabama's Black Prairie Belt. This Army Corps of Engineers facility provides a remote, peaceful camping experience on the Alabama River system, where the reservoir spans roughly 27 square miles and boasts more than 500 miles of shoreline. The campground features 33 family campsites, with the majority offering electric hookups and a handful of non-electric sites available. Modern facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, laundry facilities, and a dump station. The waterfront location provides direct access to excellent recreational opportunities including a fishing dock, boat ramp, fish cleaning stations, and a playground for families. The campground is level and open with paved roads throughout, making it accessible for various camping setups. Dannelly Reservoir is renowned for exceptional fishing, with abundant populations of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish drawing anglers year-round and hosting numerous fishing tournaments and festivals. The surrounding Black Prairie Belt landscape features rich, dark soils supporting a mosaic of rolling grasslands interspersed with dense hardwood and pine forests. Whitetail deer and wild turkeys roam freely through the park, creating prime bow-hunting opportunities for those with proper permits. The remote location near Gee's Bend offers a true escape for boaters, fishermen, and nature enthusiasts seeking tranquility in rural southwest Alabama.
