About
Dorst Creek Campground sits at 6,700 feet elevation along scenic Dorst Creek in Sequoia National Park, surrounded by lodgepole pine, red fir, and several meadows with small streams flowing through the area. The campground normally offers 218 individual sites and 4 group sites, with paved roads, flush toilets, and drinking water. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage box. A free dump station is available on-site. The campground accommodates both tent and RV camping, including sites suitable for large RVs and pull-through configurations. While there is no electricity at campsites, the location provides excellent access to Giant Forest region trails.
The trailhead to Muir Grove, a 57-acre grove containing impressive giant sequoias, begins at the campground. The campground is centrally located, making it an ideal base for exploring both parks. Giant Forest Grove, General Sherman Tree, Moro Rock, and Tunnel Log are 9-17 miles away. Lodgepole Village, located nine miles from the campground, offers a visitor center, nightly interpretive ranger programs, market, deli, coin-operated showers, and laundry facilities. Popular nearby hikes include the Big Trees Trail, Moro Rock, Tokopah Falls Trail, and trails through the ancient sequoia groves. Summer weather is typically warm with cool nights, while winters bring deep snow and cold temperatures.
Directions
From either main park entrance, take the Generals Highway to Dorst Creek Campground. From the south entrance via Highway 198, the entrance will be on your left after approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. From the north entrance via Highway 180, the entrance will be on your right after approximately 45 minutes. Note: Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are advised to enter via the northern Highway 180 entrance due to narrow, winding road conditions on the southern approach.
