About
Upper Stony Creek Campground is situated in the mid-elevation Sierra Nevada mountains at approximately 6,400 feet, along the scenic Stony Creek below Shell Mountain in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground features 23 family campsites consisting of a mix of recreation vehicle and single car spurs, each equipped with a picnic table and fire pit. Vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump are provided on-site. The location serves as an excellent base for outdoor recreation, with the Stony Creek Trailhead providing access to the Jennie Lakes Wilderness for hiking, and opportunities for mountain biking outside wilderness boundaries. The campground is located along the scenic Generals Highway, positioning visitors perfectly between Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for day trips. Nearby Stony Creek Resort, just half a mile away, offers public showers, a phone, groceries, a restaurant, and gasoline. The campground operates seasonally and is managed by ExplorUS under a concessionaire permit with the Sequoia National Forest. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Special food storage regulations are in effect due to black bear activity, and campfire permits are required for all fires, barbeques, and camp stoves. The facility charges $34 per night for single sites with an additional $8 fee for extra vehicles.
Directions
From Fresno, take Highway 180 east towards Kings Canyon/Sequoia Park. Take the Generals Highway fork to the right. After approximately 13 miles, the campground entrance will be on the left, about 14 miles southeast of Grant Grove.
