Fort Richardson State Park and Historic Site sits on land that once served as a crucial U.S. Army frontier post established in 1867 during the Indian Wars. Today, the park blends history and outdoor recreation across its main park area near Jacksboro and the North Park location three miles away on Lost Creek Reservoir. The campground offers 55 campsites with varying amenities. The West Camping Loop features 4 full hookup sites with sewer, water, and 20/30/50-amp electric, plus 19 sites with water and 20/30/50-amp electric. The East Camping Loop has 18 sites with water and 20/30-amp electric. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings with grills, with some pull-through options available. The North Park area on Lost Creek Reservoir offers 14 sites with water and 20/30/50-amp electric, limited to single axle trailers or tents, close to a swimming beach, fishing pier, and kayak launch. An 11-site overflow area provides basic tent camping, and a scout camp accommodates groups up to 50. Beyond camping, visitors can tour the restored fort hospital museum and other historic buildings, hike the 18-mile round-trip multi-use trail along Lost Creek Reservoir, and enjoy fishing and water access. The park provides restrooms with showers near most camping loops and maintains the facilities year-round.

From Fort Worth, take Highway 199 north into Jacksboro; the park is on the left, one mile past the flashing light. From Denton, take Highway 380 west into Jacksboro; the park is on the left, one mile past the flashing light. From Mineral Wells, take Highway 281 north into Jacksboro; the park is on the left, one mile past the flashing light. From Wichita Falls, take Highway 281 south into Jacksboro; the park is on the right, one mile past the courthouse square.
