Lake Arrowhead State Park

Open — Open year-round. Reservations are highly recommended as the park often reaches capacity.

About

Lake Arrowhead State Park occupies the north shore of a 16,200-acre lake in the Rolling Plains Ecoregion of Texas, just 15 minutes south of Wichita Falls. The park's unique camping layout features eight loops with 48 water and electric sites (50 amp hookups), 19 water-only sites, a primitive walk-in camping area, and an equestrian camping area. Each site accommodates up to eight people and includes a picnic table and fire ring. Fishing is a major attraction, with no license required when fishing from shore or the lighted pier within the park. The lake is known for crappie, bass, and catfish, with nine boat ramps and a fish cleaning station available. Over five miles of multiuse trails wind through the park, including the half-mile Dragonfly Trail loop and the 4.4-mile Onion Creek Trail that offers lake views and native prairie landscapes. Birders have identified over 200 species in the area. The park offers swimming, paddling, boating, water-skiing, disc golf, and geocaching. Equipment loaners include binoculars, fishing poles, and disc golf discs. Restrooms with showers are available in the water-electric campground, and the park has a dump station. The area experiences mild winters with January lows averaging 29 degrees and hot summers with July highs reaching 99 degrees.
