The hazardous conditions could impact the this evenings commute and weekend mountain travel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels generally remain above pass levels through this afternoon, dropping to around 6000-7000 ft tonight-Saturday, then lowering to around 4000-5000 ft Sunday. Heavy snowfall rates of 1-2 inch per hour, with the heaviest snowfall Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

Poker Flat OHV Camp is a developed off-highway vehicle campground located in the Plumas National Forest in Sierra County. This small facility serves primarily as an OHV staging area with approximately 5 campsites, making it a popular base camp for off-road enthusiasts exploring the challenging terrain of the northern Sierra Nevada. The campground provides access to some of the more technical 4x4 trails in the Plumas National Forest, including the Poker Flat section of the Plumas Backcountry Discovery Trail. The area features rocky, steep, and off-camber sections that are not suitable for casual vehicles. Beyond OHV recreation, the area is known for placer mining activity and attracts backcountry visitors seeking remote camping experiences. Poker Flat OHV Camp is one of several developed OHV camps managed by the Plumas National Forest, which maintains approximately 4,482 miles of roads available for summer OHV touring. The campground operates seasonally, typically accessible from late spring through fall depending on snow conditions and road access.

Directions

From Downieville, California, head west for 0.3 miles and then turn right onto a graded dirt road marked for Poker Flat. The road follows a 4x4 trail through scenic, historic gold mining country. The area is remote and the road can be rocky and steep in places, requiring a high-clearance vehicle for access.
