Lake Whitney State Park provides a family-friendly camping destination on the shores of Lake Whitney, a 23,500-acre reservoir in Hill County, Texas. Located within easy driving distance of Dallas-Fort Worth and Waco, the park offers clear water, abundant campsites, and diverse recreational opportunities. The campground features 137 sites spread across multiple loops including Horseshoe, Blue Bird, Road Runner, White-Tail, Star View, Sunset Ridge, and Lake View areas. Sites range from basic water hookups to full hookups with 50-amp service, and all campsites include picnic tables and fire rings with grills. Anglers can fish for largemouth, striped and white bass, and blue catfish from shore, pier, or boat. The park provides a boat ramp and fish cleaning shelter, and loans fishing gear for use within the park. No fishing license is required to fish from shore in Texas state parks. Water activities include swimming, boating, and skiing. On land, visitors can explore hiking and biking trails, including paths to the Big Oak at headquarters and Lake View Point. Wildlife is abundant, with regular sightings of white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, armadillos, and occasionally bald eagles. The park also offers 27 screened shelters, many with lake views, and a group recreation hall with kitchen facilities available for rent. A camp store, multiple playgrounds, picnic areas, and a swimming beach round out the amenities. Park headquarters is staffed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and ranger programs on nature and history are offered throughout the year. Weekly camping rates are available during the off-peak season from November through February.
