About

Mt. Greylock State Reservation's Sperry Road Campground provides a true backcountry camping experience at Massachusetts' highest peak. This hike-in only campground is located two miles from the summit and can be reached via multiple trails, including a 1.3-mile moderate hike from the Campground Parking Lot on Rockwell Road or a more strenuous 2.4-mile hike from Hopper Road trailhead. The campground offers 18 individual tent sites (4-person maximum) and 9 group sites (12-person maximum), with lean-to shelters available at Chimney, Upper, and Stony Ledge group sites. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage lockers. The facility provides solar-powered composting toilets and potable water during the main camping season. Firewood can be purchased from camp staff to prevent the transport of invasive species. For year-round backpacking, five additional lean-to shelters are scattered throughout the reservation at Deer Hill, Wilbur's Clearing, Bellows Pipe, Peck's Brook, and Mark Noepel. These shared-use shelters accommodate up to 12 people each and require no reservations or fees. Backpackers are encouraged to register their itinerary with park staff by calling the Visitors Center.

Directions

The campground is accessible only by hiking. From Rockwell Road parking lot (accessible mid-May through November 1): hike 1.3 miles via Campground Trail with 100 feet elevation gain. From Hopper Road trailhead in Williamstown (accessible year-round): hike 2.4 miles via Haley Farm Trail or Hopper Trail with 1,275 feet elevation gain.
