About

Mount Pisgah Campground is one of the most popular camping destinations along the Blue Ridge Parkway, perched high in the rolling mountains of western North Carolina. At an elevation of 4,980 feet, the campground offers cool, shaded relief from summer heat, surrounded by the dense hardwood forests of the Appalachian range. The area was once part of George Vanderbilt's Biltmore Estate holdings, and the site of his former hunting lodge, Buck Springs, lies nearby. The campground features 125 sites across multiple loops (A, B, C, D), with 53 reservable through Recreation.gov and 72 available first-come, first-served. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Amenities include comfort stations with flush toilets, hot showers in Loops B and C, potable water, a dump station, and bear-proof food storage lockers. There are no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual sites. Several excellent hiking trails are accessible directly from the campground. The Frying Pan Trail leads 1.6 miles to the fire tower at Frying Pan Mountain. The Buck Spring Trail winds through hardwood forest to the Mt. Pisgah Parking Area, from which a 1.6-mile climb reaches the summit of Mount Pisgah. The historic Shut-In Trail follows the original route from Biltmore Estate to Buck Spring Lodge. The adjacent Pisgah Inn offers a restaurant and country store.

Directions

From Interstate 40 west, take exit 47 and turn south onto Highway 191. Stay in the right lane and turn south onto the Blue Ridge Parkway at the North Carolina Arboretum. Continue 15 miles on the Parkway through nine tunnels, passing the Mt. Pisgah Parking Area, Country Store, and Pisgah Inn on the left. The campground entrance is on the right immediately after the Pisgah Inn. From Waynesville, take Highway 276 about 22 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway, then turn north and continue 4 miles to the campground on the left.
