About

One of the most popular campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Pisgah Campground is perched in the rolling mountains of western North Carolina at an elevation of 4,980 feet. Surrounded by dense hardwood forests, the campground offers shady, cool respite from summer heat with 125 campsites, including 71 reservable and 54 first-come, first-served sites. Located at Milepost 408.6, it provides spectacular sunrise and sunset views from nearby overlooks. Several popular hiking trails ranging from moderate to strenuous are accessible from the campground. The Frying Pan Trail leads 1.6 miles south to the fire tower at Frying Pan Mountain, while the Buck Spring Trail winds through thick hardwood forest to the Mount Pisgah summit parking area. From there, a 1.6-mile uphill trek reaches the top of Mount Pisgah. The Shut-In Trail follows the original route from the Biltmore Estate to Buck Spring Lodge, George Vanderbilt's historic mountain getaway. The North Carolina Mountains to Sea Trail connects through the campground to trails in Pisgah National Forest. The area is steeped in history as part of George Vanderbilt's former holdings, with the site of his Buck Springs hunting camp nearby. The adjacent Pisgah Inn offers a restaurant and country store, and historic Asheville is about 20 miles away. Part of the Appalachian Mountain Range, the campground showcases scenery that bursts with wildflowers in spring and brilliant fall colors.
