Special Weather Statement issued May 22 at 11:08AM EDT by NWS Gaylord MI

11:08 AM — 8:00 PM

The combination of dry surface conditions, low afternoon relative humidity values, and gusty east to southeast winds will result in elevated fire danger conditions across northern lower Michigan this. Sustained winds of 7 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 30 mph will be seen over northern Michigan this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values of 20 to 35 percent are expected over much of northern lower Michigan. These conditions could lead to rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. For more information on burning restrictions for Michigan, see www.dnr.state.mi.us//.

About

Otsego Lake State Park Campground is a popular 155-site modern campground located just south of Gaylord off I-75 in northern Michigan. The campground occupies 62 acres along the shores of Otsego Lake and is divided into two loops: north and south. Sites are generous in size, shaded by oaks, maples, and pines, with many offering views of or direct access to the lake. Each site includes 20/30-amp electrical service, a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. The campground features modern restroom buildings with flush toilets and hot-water showers, available seasonally from mid-May through mid-October. A sanitation station serves RV campers. During the off-season, vault toilets are available and a water spigot at park headquarters allows campers to fill water jugs. Recent infrastructure upgrades converted 44 campsites to full-hookup with water and sewer connections. Beyond camping, the park offers a half-mile sandy swimming beach, ADA-accessible fishing pier, boat launch accommodating motorized and non-motorized watercraft, and seasonal kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals. A dog beach provides lakefront access for pets. The day-use area includes picnic facilities with a playground and an accessible boardwalk leading to the north beach.
