Fisherman's Island State Park rustic campground offers a camping experience focused on solitude and natural beauty along Lake Michigan's unspoiled shoreline. The campground features 80 sites ideal for tents and compact campers, with most sites distributed across three main loops and 15 premium sites nestled directly in the dunes along the lakeshore. The rustic nature of this campground means no modern amenities—campers will find hand-pumped water and vault toilets in each loop, but no showers, electricity, or modern restrooms. The 2,678-acre park encompasses rolling dunes covered with maple, birch, and aspen trees, broken up by bogs of cedar and black spruce. With more than 6 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, including a half-mile sandy beach and rocky forest shoreline, the park is particularly popular with rock hounds searching for Petoskey stones. A 2.5-mile hiking trail winds through the park, and the south end is designated as primitive wilderness. Located just 4 miles from downtown Charlevoix, the park offers easy access to town amenities while maintaining a secluded camping atmosphere. The park's namesake island sits just offshore from the day-use area and occasionally becomes a peninsula during periods of lower water levels.

Directions

From Charlevoix, Michigan, head south on US-31 for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Bell's Bay Road and continue for about 2.5 miles to reach the park entrance.
