About
Pershing State Park Campground is situated within a 3,527-acre wetland preserve that showcases the original pre-settlement landscape of northern Missouri. The shaded campground offers basic and electric campsites along with a special-use camping area, making it suitable for various camping styles. Modern facilities include restrooms with hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station conveniently located near the campground. The park's extensive trail system features a boardwalk that winds through wet prairies, along meandering Locust Creek with its oxbow sloughs and cutoffs, and into bottomland forests. These wetland habitats attract numerous bird species and waterfowl, making it an excellent destination for wildlife observation. Fishing opportunities abound in Locust Creek and four small lakes, where anglers can catch bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Boating is permitted with electric motors only. The campground serves as a base for exploring this unique wetland ecosystem while providing comfortable amenities. Picnic sites and shelters are available throughout the park. Named in honor of General John J. Pershing, the park preserves an increasingly rare example of northern Missouri's historic wetland landscape, offering visitors a chance to experience the region's natural heritage.
