Located two miles west of Kirksville in north-central Missouri, Thousand Hills State Park Campground sits on the shores of Forest Lake. The park features two distinct camping areas with over 50 total campsites. Campground 1, the larger facility with 49 sites, includes family campsites for extra space and operates seasonally from April through October. Campground 2, with fewer sites, remains open year-round and provides potable water during the winter months when Campground 1 is closed. Most campsites offer electric hookups with 30-amp or 50-amp service, and some sites feature pull-through access. Basic non-electric sites are also available. The park's camp store offers camping supplies during the season, and firewood is sold at the marina. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance through the Missouri State Parks system. The campground serves as a base for exploring Forest Lake's recreational opportunities, including fishing, swimming, and boating. Miles of hiking and mountain biking trails wind through the park's woodlands and savannas. An interpretive shelter near the lake educates visitors about ancient petroglyphs left by inhabitants over 1,500 years ago. The park also offers duplex cabin rentals for those seeking alternative accommodations.
