About

Boone's Lick State Historic Site preserves one of the saltwater springs that was used for salt production in the early 19th century, operated by the sons of Daniel Boone. The site features a picnic shelter available for day-use only, along with a short, steep trail that winds down to the spring where wood remnants of the saltworks and an iron kettle remain visible. Outdoor exhibits interpret this unique saltwater environment and its role as a center of frontier industry. The picnic shelter measures 30' x 46' and can accommodate up to 60 people with 10 picnic tables and one grill. A vault toilet is located approximately 200 feet from the shelter. The shelter can be reserved for $25 per day through the Missouri State Parks reservation system, or is available first-come, first-served when not reserved. This is a day-use historic site only; overnight camping is not available.
