About

Bothwell Lodge Shelters provides a reservable picnic shelter at Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site, located atop a bluff north of Sedalia. The shelter accommodates between 55 and 75 people and is accessible, making it suitable for group gatherings and family picnics. The facility features nearby restrooms and a playground for children. While the shelter itself does not have water or electricity, it offers a scenic setting within the grounds of the historic site. The historic site preserves the 31-room, 12,000-square-foot lodge built by Sedalia attorney John Homer Bothwell between 1897 and 1928. Visitors to the picnic area can also explore the Stonyridge Trail, which meanders through wooded slopes past stone gazebos and rock shelters. The grounds are open year-round from 8 a.m. to sunset, providing opportunities for hiking and enjoying the natural beauty of the property alongside your picnic experience.
