About

Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park Campground sits within 1,105 acres of hills, ravines, freshwater marsh, fens, and bottomland and upland forests near the Great Bend of the Missouri River. The park preserves remnants of the Missouria Indian village marked on a 1673 map by Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet. Campers can explore the hand-dug earthwork known as Old Fort, visit Missouri's American Indian Cultural Center, and hike trails through the Oumessourit Natural Area with views of freshwater marshes and diverse forest ecosystems. The campground offers 22 sites with both basic and electric options, including 50-amp service. Sites are reservable up to 12 months in advance through the Missouri State Parks system. The campground provides seasonal shower facilities (closed November 1 through April 14), but no dump station is available on-site; the nearest facility is located in the city of Marshall. Firewood and ice are available for purchase during posted hours. The park's 18-acre lake provides fishing opportunities, and shaded picnic areas and shelters are scattered throughout the grounds.
