About
Penrose Point State Park Campground sits on a scenic peninsula jutting into Puget Sound, offering campers a peaceful retreat surrounded by water on three sides. The 162-acre day-use and camping park features 82 standard campsites tucked into a shaded second-growth forest of Douglas fir, western red cedar, and big-leaf maple. Facilities include flush restrooms, seasonal coin-operated hot showers (available May 15 through October 1), drinking water, and a dump station near the park entrance. The park provides excellent waterfront access with over 2.5 miles of saltwater shoreline, making it popular for beachcombing, clamming (in season with proper license), crabbing, and fishing. A small boat launch accommodates kayaks and canoes, and the park is a designated stop on the Cascadia Marine Trail. Hikers can explore more than 2 miles of trails winding through the forest. In addition to the standard sites, the campground offers a group camp for up to 50 people, a hiker/biker site, and a Cascadia Marine Trail campsite. Campground roads are narrow and winding, making it best suited for smaller RVs and trailers up to 35 feet. Reservations are available from mid-May through mid-September via the Washington State Parks online system; sites are first-come, first-served during the off-season.
Directions
From Tacoma, take State Route 16 west to Purdy, then follow State Route 302 west to Key Peninsula Highway. Turn south and continue to 158th Avenue SW, then turn west to the park entrance.
