Pawnee State Recreation Area is a popular camping destination situated approximately 12 miles west of Lincoln, Nebraska, encompassing 2,544 acres with a 740-acre lake at its center. The campground offers 207 primitive campsites divided into multiple areas, providing options for various camping preferences. Sixty-eight sites feature all-weather pads with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electrical hookups, while 34 additional pads lack electricity, and 97 non-pad sites offer more rustic camping experiences. Equestrian campers will find dedicated sites with facilities for horses. The recreation area features modern amenities including restrooms with showers, making it suitable for extended stays. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the lake's three boat ramps and two docks for water recreation, a designated swim beach, hiking trails throughout the property, and both shotgun shooting and archery ranges. The campground's proximity to Lincoln provides convenient access to urban amenities while maintaining a natural setting popular with anglers, boaters, hikers, hunters, and photographers.
