About
Clarks Hill is a day-use recreation area managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on J. Strom Thurmond Lake in South Carolina. The park features ten reservable group picnic shelters spread throughout a mixed pine and hardwood forest that provides shade during hot, humid summers. Shelters range in capacity from 6 to 48 people, with several featuring electrical hookups for group events. Facilities include flush and vault toilets, drinking water, a designated swimming beach, boat ramp, and dock. The 70,000-acre lake offers some of the best fishing in the southeastern United States, with anglers targeting largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. Boating, water skiing, and jet skiing are popular activities on the expansive waters. Hikers can access the 1.8-mile Lake Springs Loop and the 27-mile Bartram Trail, which winds along the scenic shoreline. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with southern bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, wild turkeys, and whitetail deer frequently spotted in the area.
