About

The Olallie Lake Guard Station Cabin offers an authentic old-fashioned cabin experience in the heart of the Olallie Lake Scenic Area. This historically significant two-story structure was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s for the Forest Ranger who patrolled the area, and it represents a classic example of the Forest Service rustic architectural style. The cabin was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The four-room cabin includes a kitchen, living room with two futon couches, a bunk bedroom, and a loft with a queen bed, accommodating up to 8 guests. Amenities include propane lights, a propane refrigerator, stove and oven, basic cooking pots, pans, dishes and utensils, plus a wood stove for heat with firewood provided. There is limited water supply with hot and cold water to the kitchen sink only. No potable drinking water is available; guests must bring their own. A vault toilet is located about 75 feet from the cabin. The cabin's location near Olallie Lake affords views of the north face of 10,497-foot Mt. Jefferson and 7,215-foot Olallie Butte. The Pacific Crest Trail passes adjacent to the cabin, and Olallie Lake (240 acres) offers non-motorized boating and excellent rainbow trout fishing. Guests should bring sleeping bags/bedding, towels, food, flashlight/lantern, first aid kit, and garbage bags. Cell phone coverage is very spotty throughout the area.
