About
Lower Lake Campground is a small, primitive camping area located on Lower Lake in the Olallie Lake Scenic Area of Mount Hood National Forest. The lake covers 14 acres and sits near the border with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation. The surrounding area features numerous small alpine lakes worth exploring, connected by hiking trails including the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Recreational opportunities include lake fishing, hiking, backpacking, and non-motorized boating such as canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Campers must be self-sufficient as there is no potable water or restroom facilities on site. The campground suffered extensive damage during the 2020 Lionshead Fire and remains closed while repair work continues. High elevation snow typically limits access to the Olallie Lake area until June, and winter road closures are common. Vehicle length is restricted to 16 feet maximum.
