About
Breitenbush Lake Campground is a primitive, dispersed-style campground located on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation just north of Mt. Jefferson Wilderness in Oregon. The campground provides nearby access to the Pacific Crest Trail and sits alongside Breitenbush Lake at approximately 5,500 feet elevation. When operational, the campground offered around 20 sites with vault toilets but limited facilities. There is no drinking water, no garbage service (pack it out), and no fees or reservations. The lake itself falls under Warm Springs Reservation jurisdiction, meaning fishing by the general public is prohibited without a Warm Springs Fishing License. Non-motorized boats like canoes and kayaks are allowed on the lake, but motorized boats are prohibited. Access is via Forest Service Road 46 (seasonally closed) and Forest Service Road 4220 from Estacada. The remote location and high elevation mean the campground typically operates only during summer months when roads are passable.
Directions
From Estacada, OR, take OR-224 E/Clackamas Hwy southeast for 25.3 miles. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 46 (seasonally closed) and follow for 28 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 4220 and continue approximately 7 miles to the lake and campground.
