About

Oak Park is a day-use recreation area situated below Wright Patman Dam in the piney woods of northeastern Texas. Named for the large oak trees that create a peaceful, shaded setting, the park serves as a popular location for group gatherings, picnics, and special events. The facility offers 25 picnic sites equipped with tables and upright grills, available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge during operating hours. A rentable group pavilion accommodates larger gatherings and events. The park includes recreational amenities such as a volleyball court and playground, making it family-friendly. A vault restroom and dump station are available on-site. Adjacent to Oak Park is a model airplane flying field, adding a unique attraction to the area. While Oak Park itself is not directly on the waterfront, the scenic shoreline of Wright Patman Lake is a short distance away, and several boating, fishing, and swimming facilities can be accessed at nearby parks around the lake. Wright Patman Lake encompasses approximately 30,000 surface acres of water and 50,000 acres of public forestland managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The surrounding forests provide habitat for wild turkey, white-tailed deer, migrating bald eagles, pelicans, and various waterfowl. The lake offers excellent fishing opportunities for bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. The Texarkana region offers additional activities including shopping, dining, and historical sites.

Directions

From Texarkana, take U.S. Highway 59 south for approximately 12 miles. Turn right at the sign for Wright Patman Lake. Follow the park road to the dam, turn left and proceed to the next intersection. Turn left again and follow the road to the park.
