About
Oak Bottom Campground occupies a peaceful forested hillside in the Six Rivers National Forest, surrounded by Douglas fir and mixed hardwoods at 700 feet elevation. The campground features 25 single-family sites spread across a loop road, each equipped with a fire ring and grill, picnic table, and bear-resistant food storage locker. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. The Salmon River, a designated Wild and Scenic River, flows nearby with the Oak Bottom River Access directly across from the campground. Spring brings challenging class 3-5 whitewater that draws experienced rafters and kayakers. Summer transforms the lower Salmon into excellent swimming and tubing territory with multiple river access points within walking distance. Fall offers some of California's best salmon and steelhead fishing in the nearby Klamath River, a 15-minute drive away. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through mid-October. Most sites are reservable through Recreation.gov, with some available first-come, first-served. The town of Somes Bar, 2.5 miles away, has a general store with groceries, propane, fishing tackle, and a post office.
