About
Oak Bottom Campground is nestled on a gently sloping hillside within the expansive Six Rivers National Forest in northwest California, surrounded by a mixed Douglas fir and hardwood forest at 700-foot elevation. The campground offers a peaceful camping experience, far removed from highway noise and other distractions. Large deciduous trees provide ample shade throughout the campground, and diverse wildlife inhabits the surrounding forest. Located near the California Salmon River, a designated Wild and Scenic River, the campground attracts whitewater enthusiasts in spring who come to tackle challenging class 3-5 rapids. Summer visitors enjoy swimming and tubing at numerous river access points within a short drive or walk from the campground, including the Oak Bottom River Access directly across the road. Fall brings excellent salmon and steelhead fishing opportunities in the nearby Klamath River, just a 15-minute drive away. The campground features 26 non-electric campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, though water availability may be limited during maintenance periods. A campground host may be available during the operating season. The small town of Somes Bar is 2.5 miles from the campground, offering propane, groceries, a post office, and tackle at the general store. Note that this is not the Oak Bottom Campground at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
