About

Notrebes Bend Park is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground situated on the Arkansas River just below Wilbur D. Mills Dam in Arkansas County. This small, quiet facility contains 30 campsites with 50-amp electric hookups, drinking water, and campfire rings. Twenty-four sites may be reserved in advance, while the remaining sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground features a comfort station with restrooms and hot showers, a boat ramp for river access, and a trailer dump station. The campground's location along the Mississippi Flyway makes it an exceptional spot for birding, as millions of migratory birds pass through this corridor traveling to and from the Gulf of Mexico. Fishing is the primary draw for most visitors, with the tailwaters below Wilbur D. Mills Dam offering abundant populations of largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. The Arkansas River meanders for 26 miles below the dam before meeting the Mississippi River, and upstream lies Pool 2, which connects to the Arkansas Post Canal, White River, Merrisach Lake, and Coal Pile Lake. Nearby attractions include the Arkansas Post National Memorial, marking the site of the first European village west of the Mississippi River established in 1686, and the Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge, offering additional opportunities for fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing. Swimming, wading, and diving are prohibited in the Arkansas River due to rapidly changing water levels from dam operations.

Directions

From DeWitt, Arkansas, take US-165 south for 8.1 miles. Exit onto State Route 44 east and continue south for 5.3 miles to Tichnor. Take Tichnor Blacktop Road for 10 miles, cross the Arkansas Post Canal Bridge, and turn right onto Wilbur D. Mills Road. Continue for 6.5 miles and enter park.
