About
Merrisach Lake Campground and Day Use Park occupies a peaceful setting on the banks of Merrisach Lake and the Arkansas Post Canal, stemming from the pool between Wilbur D. Mills Dam and Lock Number 2. The campground sits within the bottomland hardwood forest of eastern Arkansas, offering visitors seclusion and direct access to excellent fishing. Anglers target bass, crappie, and catfish in Merrisach Lake and the tailwaters of Wilbur D. Mills Dam, which are particularly productive for catfish. The facility features approximately 69 campsites distributed across five loops (A, B, C, D, and E), with most sites offering 30 or 50-amp electric service and water hookups. Sites vary in size, with some accommodating vehicles up to 80 feet. Two large group picnic shelters are available for gatherings of up to 75 guests each. The campground provides hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, boat ramp, drinking water, and playground. The location on the Mississippi Flyway makes this an exceptional spot for birding, as millions of songbirds, ducks, geese, and butterflies pass through during migration. Nearby attractions include the Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest remaining bottomland hardwood forests in the Mississippi River Valley, and the Arkansas Post National Memorial. Note that swimming and wading are prohibited due to the presence of alligators in the lake.
