About

Northern Lights Campground holds a unique place in Devil's Lake State Park history as the oldest camping area, having opened in 1939. The campground encompasses sites 104-246 and is the only area in the park where campers can find wooded electric sites. With 71 electric sites available alongside non-electric options, it accommodates both RV campers seeking hookups and tent campers preferring primitive sites. Vegetation varies throughout, with both wooded and open grassy sites available. The campground sits approximately half a mile from the lakeshore. Three of the four shower and restroom buildings date back to the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930s. Modern amenities include flush toilets, individual shower stalls at no extra charge, sinks with mirrors and electrical outlets. A playground near site 140 serves families, and a dump/fill station accommodates RVs. Two sites are designated for accessibility needs. Each campsite includes a picnic table, gravel or paved parking area, room for at least one family tent, and a metal fire ring. The park follows a carry-in, carry-out trash policy. Firewood gathering from dead ground wood is permitted. All sites require reservations, available up to 11 months in advance.
