About
The equestrian campground at Governor Dodge State Park is located in the Hickory Ridge area and offers 20 well-appointed campsites designed specifically for horse camping. Eighteen sites include electric hookups, and all sites feature high-line hitching posts with cable, picnic tables, and fire rings. The campground is equipped with vault toilets, drinking water, a dedicated horse washing station, and manure bunkers for responsible waste management. Campers also have access to shower facilities located in the nearby Hickory Ridge group camp area. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the park's extensive 22-mile bridle trail system, which includes both interior trails and the 15-mile Driftless Horse Trail. These trails provide riders with spectacular views of southwestern Wisconsin's unique Driftless Area landscape, featuring rolling hills, rocky terrain, and diverse natural scenery. The trailhead adjoining the campground includes hitching rails, picnic tables, and comfort facilities. Located within one of Wisconsin's largest state parks spanning over 5,000 acres, the equestrian campground offers a true backcountry experience while maintaining convenient amenities. The facility was recently upgraded to improve accessibility for horse trailers and campers, making it one of the premier equestrian camping destinations in Wisconsin.
