The equestrian campground operates seasonally from May through November 15. Currently closed for the early season, with sites becoming available starting May 14, 2026. Reservations can be made through wisconsin.goingtocamp.com up to 11 months in advance.

About

Located in the scenic Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin, Governor Dodge State Park's equestrian campground sits within the Hickory Ridge area and caters specifically to horse campers. The 20-site campground features 18 sites with electric hookups, each equipped with a high-line hitching post and cable for safely securing horses overnight. Facilities include vault toilets, potable drinking water, a horse washing station for cleaning up after rides, and manure bunkers for proper waste disposal. Campers can access shower facilities at the adjacent Hickory Ridge group camp area. Site 765E is designated accessible for persons with disabilities. The campground serves as a base for exploring 22 miles of equestrian trails within the park, including the interior horse trail network and the 15-mile Driftless Horse Trail. The surrounding landscape features rugged terrain with sandstone bluffs, deep valleys, and two lakes within the 5,270-acre park.

Directions

The park is located off Highway 23, approximately 3 miles north of Dodgeville, Wisconsin. The equestrian campground is in the Hickory Ridge area of the park.
