About
Lake Conasauga Overflow Campground is a small first-come, first-served facility with six non-reservable campsites located about one mile from the main Lake Conasauga Campground. Positioned near the summit of Grassy Mountain at an elevation of 3,150 feet in northwest Georgia, this overflow area serves as a primitive camping option within the Lake Conasauga Recreation Area. Each campsite includes a tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post, with centrally located bear-proof trash cans and a single vault toilet serving the campground. No potable water is available on-site. Surrounded by forested mountains within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, the campground offers access to the Songbird Trail directly from the camping area. Campers can drive approximately half a mile to access Lake Conasauga's swimming area, boat launch for canoes and kayaks with electric motors only, fishing opportunities for bass and bream, and several hiking trails including the Lake Loop Trail and Tower Trail. The 45,000-acre Cohutta/Big Frog Wilderness, the largest designated wilderness east of the Mississippi River, lies adjacent to the recreation area. Reaching the campground requires a 15+ mile drive on steep, narrow, winding gravel roads in mountainous terrain. Cell phone service is limited to non-existent in the area, and the nearest gas station and store is 15 miles away in Crandall, GA. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at this facility, and pets must be leashed at all times. Forest Road 68 is the recommended route, especially for those pulling trailers, though the challenging access makes this location unsuitable for large RVs.

Turn left to remain on FSR 68 and follow for 4-5 miles to the entrance of the Lake Conasauga Recreation Area.
