About
North Tule Campground is located on the northeastern shore of Success Lake in Tulare County, California, just 8 miles east of Porterville in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this campground is part of the Tule Recreation Area and serves as an excellent base for water recreation on Success Lake, which covers 2,450 acres when full.
The campground features paved driveways and sites scattered among sparse tree coverage, providing limited shade but excellent lake access. Many sites include electric hookups (30 and 50 amp), making it popular with RV campers. The facility has accessible features throughout, accommodating visitors with mobility challenges. During summer months from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Park Rangers host Saturday evening campfire programs at the amphitheater.
Success Lake offers excellent opportunities for boating, kayaking, swimming, and fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, and occasional trout. The lake's quiet coves are particularly popular with kayakers. On-site boat ramps provide direct water access. Springtime brings colorful wildflower displays across the surrounding foothills. The campground operates year-round with flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station, and playgrounds. Gates close nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
