About

North Lake Campground is a small, primitive campground nestled among towering Jeffrey and Lodgepole pines at the end of North Lake Road, about 20 miles west of Bishop. All 11 campsites enjoy shade and proximity to the north fork of Bishop Creek. Three sites are short walk-ins while the remaining eight have small parking areas directly at the sites. The campground provides vault toilets, picnic tables, and bear boxes at each site. Bear boxes are required for all food storage as this is an active bear area. No potable water is available; campers must treat or filter water from nearby sources or bring their own. The access road is partially paved and partially gravel, narrow and winding, which prohibits trailers and RVs. North Lake serves as a popular trailhead for Piute Pass and access to the John Muir Wilderness. Mosquitoes can be particularly bothersome in spring and early summer. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 7-day maximum stay.

Directions

From Bishop, go west on State Route 168 (Line Street) approximately 18 miles. Turn right on North Lake Road and go up the hill approximately 2 miles. Follow the signs to the campground, located 1/2 mile past North Lake.
