About

North Lake Campground sits at 9,500 feet elevation in Inyo National Forest, tucked among tall Jeffrey and Lodgepole pines adjacent to the north fork of Bishop Creek. This intimate 11-site campground offers shaded camping with three very short walk-in sites and eight sites with small parking spots at each site. The access road to North Lake is narrow and winding, partially paved and partially gravel, making the campground unsuitable for RVs and trailers. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Campers register at the campground upon arrival. North Lake serves as a gateway to excellent hiking and fishing opportunities in the Eastern Sierra. Spring and early summer visitors should be prepared for mosquitoes. The campground is located in active bear country, and all food must be stored in the provided bear boxes when not attended. No potable water is available on-site; campers must treat or filter water from nearby sources. The remote, high-elevation setting provides a quiet mountain experience with vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits at each site. The 7-day maximum stay limit applies.

Directions

From Bishop, take State Route 168 (Line Street) west approximately 18 miles. Turn right on North Lake Road and drive up the hill approximately 2 miles. Follow signs to the campground, located 1/2 mile past North Lake.
