Norris Campground

Closed — Closed indefinitely since 2020. The park does not have adequate staffing for emergency response at this remote location and infrastructure maintenance needs remain unaddressed.

About

Norris Campground was once a popular 112-site campground located in the northwestern section of Yellowstone National Park, just 0.8 miles north of Norris Junction. The campground featured flush toilets, potable water, food storage lockers, and an amphitheater, with two accessible campsites and accessible restrooms. Most sites accommodated smaller RVs, with only a few sites able to handle larger rigs up to 50 feet combined vehicle length. The campground has been closed to the public since 2020 and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. The National Park Service made the decision due to the campground's remote location and insufficient staffing to provide adequate emergency response services, including law enforcement and emergency medical services. Infrastructure challenges, including water line issues and facility maintenance needs, have also contributed to the extended closure. The park has removed Norris Campground from official publications and websites as a result of this indefinite closure.
