Norris Campground
Closed indefinitely. Norris Campground has been shut down for several years due to inadequate staffing for emergency services and facility maintenance at its remote location. The NPS has removed it from their official campground listings with no announced reopening date.
About
Norris Campground once offered 112 campsites in a forested setting near Norris Junction, providing convenient access to Norris Geyser Basin and the Gibbon River. The campground featured flush toilets at the entrance, vault toilets throughout, seasonal potable water, an amphitheater for evening ranger programs, and bear-proof food storage lockers. However, the campground has been closed to the public for approximately five years and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. The National Park Service cited the campground's remote location as the primary factor, explaining that they lack the staffing required to effectively respond to emergency incidents including law enforcement and emergency medical services, as well as handle necessary facility maintenance and repairs. Norris Campground has been removed from Yellowstone's official website and publications. Campers seeking sites near this area should consider Indian Creek Campground or Madison Campground as alternatives.
