About

Madison Campground occupies a scenic location at 6,800 feet elevation where the Gibbon and Firehole rivers converge to form the Madison River. The campground sits 14 miles east of the West Yellowstone entrance and 16 miles north of Old Faithful, making it well-positioned for exploring the park's western attractions including the Madison Information Station and nearby geyser basins. The campground offers 278 individual sites and 3 group sites in a partially wooded setting. Facilities include 14 restroom buildings with flush toilets and cold running water, dishwashing stations, an RV dump station, shared bear-proof food storage boxes, and a small mercantile store selling camping supplies and snacks. All individual sites have a picnic table and fire grate. No hookups or shower facilities are available on-site. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with bison frequenting the surrounding meadows in early summer and elk bugling audible during September and October. The campground accommodates both tent and RV camping, with some sites suitable for vehicles up to 40 feet, though larger sites are limited and may not be level.
