About
Eagle Creek Campground offers a quiet base camp for exploring Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding Custer Gallatin National Forest. Located 2 miles northeast of Gardiner on Jardine Road at an elevation of 6,100 feet, the campground provides stunning views of Yellowstone's peaks and the Gallatin Mountains. The facility features 20 sites including 18 single sites and 2 double sites on gravel roads with unpaved parking areas. Sites 19 and 20 are positioned adjacent to horse corrals and reserved for stock users until 4 pm, after which they become available first-come, first-served for one night only.
The campground serves as a trailhead for the Yellowstone River Trail and provides convenient access to horseback riding, fishing, and rafting on the Yellowstone River. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with elk frequently roaming through the campground. A small creek bordered by aspen trees flows along the west side of the property. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and bear-proof storage box. The campground has vault toilets but no potable water, hookups, or dump station.
Eagle Creek's location offers unparalleled proximity to Yellowstone National Park's north entrance, just 10 minutes away, while providing a quieter alternative to park campgrounds. The area is subject to bear activity year-round, and food storage orders require proper use of bear boxes from March 1 through December 1. Sites are not all level, so visitors should be prepared for uneven terrain.
Directions
From Livingston, head south on Highway 89 toward Gardiner for 54 miles. Turn left onto Jardine Road and continue 0.9 miles, staying right at the split. Drive another 1.2 miles; the campground entrance is on the left.
