About

Millrace Campground is a walk-in primitive campground situated at Foster Falls within New River Trail State Park. The 19 timbered tent sites overlook the New River, offering a secluded backcountry feel despite accessible amenities. There is no vehicular access to the campsites; visitors park in the designated lot and walk a short distance to their sites. Each site features a fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. The campground provides drinking water and non-flush toilets, though no showers or bathhouses are available. Site MR019 is ADA accessible and is reserved last if not needed by guests with disabilities. The New River Trail, a 57-mile converted railroad right-of-way, passes directly by the campground, making it ideal for multiday trail adventures by foot, bike, or horseback. The New River offers excellent fishing for smallmouth bass, muskellunge, walleye, and other species. Tubing and paddling are popular, with boat rentals and launches available at Foster Falls. Note that there is no lifeguarded swimming, and the river's current can be unpredictable with potential underwater hazards.
