Cliffview Campground
Open — Open year-round with reservations required. Running water is shut off from November through March; campers must bring their own water during these months.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 2:03PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
The combination of 10 hour fuel moistures around 7 to 10 percent, relative humidities around 25 to 30 percent, and wind gusts around 20 to 25 mph will lead to an increased risk for the rapid spread of wildfires on Monday. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans. About
Cliffview Campground is a primitive trailside campground located within New River Trail State Park in Carroll County near Galax, Virginia. This walk-in campground features 12 timbered primitive tent sites perched along the New River Trail with views overlooking Chestnut Creek. Campers park at the adjacent Dannelly Fitness Complex and access the campground via a footbridge, as there is no vehicle access to the sites themselves. Each site is timbered and marked, equipped with a fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. The campground provides drinking water and non-flush restroom facilities. One site, CV001, is universally accessible and reserved last if not needed by disabled campers. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the 57-mile New River Trail, which is popular for hiking, biking, and fishing. Reservations are required for all sites and same-day reservations are permitted. Campers must display their confirmation letter on their vehicle dashboard for overnight parking. Note that running water is shut off from November through March, requiring campers to bring their own water during the winter months.
