Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A slow moving front will focus a west to east moving area of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Cliffview Campground offers primitive tent camping along the 57-mile New River Trail, a multi-use rail trail following the New River through the Blue Ridge Highlands of southwestern Virginia. The campground sits above Chestnut Creek in Carroll County near Galax, providing direct trail access for hikers, bikers, and equestrians exploring the scenic corridor. The 12 timbered and marked campsites are walk-in only, accessed via a footbridge from the Dannelly Fitness Complex parking lot. Each site features a fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. Non-flush pit toilets serve the campground, and drinking water is available seasonally (shut off November through March, when campers must bring their own supply). Site CV001 is universally accessible with accessible restroom facilities. Reservations are required for all sites and can be made up to 11 months in advance through reservevaparks.com or by calling 1-800-933-PARK. Same-day reservations are permitted until 2 p.m. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out at 1 p.m. Maximum stay is 14 days within a 30-day period. Pets are welcome at no additional charge but must be leashed.
Directions
Take State Route 58 to Galax. Go north on SR 887 to Cliffview Road (SR 721). Take SR 721 one-quarter mile and turn right onto Creekview Road. Go one mile to the Dannelly Fitness Complex parking lot. The campground is accessed via footbridge from the parking area.
