About
Located on remote Montague Island at the entrance to Prince William Sound, Nellie Martin River Cabin offers a wilderness lodging experience for those seeking solitude and exceptional fishing. The cabin sits on the Nellie Martin River at the edge of a dense spruce forest, less than a mile from the beach landing area. Access is by wheel plane only, landing on the beach at low tide, typically a 45-minute flight from Seward or Cordova. The rustic 12x14-foot cabin accommodates up to six people on wooden bunks without mattresses. Amenities include a table, wood stove, oil stove, axe, saw, splitting maul, and a rainwater catchment barrel. There is no running water, electricity, cut firewood, or cooking utensils. Visitors must bring all water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, or boil surface water for at least five minutes. An outdoor pit toilet is provided. The Nellie Martin River features one of the largest coho salmon runs in the Prince William Sound area, drawing heavy use from August through September. Pink salmon arrive earlier in the season, along with sea-run Dolly Varden and cutthroat trout. Hunters can pursue Sitka black-tail deer and brown bear during their respective seasons. The nearby beach offers beachcombing for glass floats and other sea-borne treasures. Wildlife includes migratory waterfowl and brown bears.
