About
Green Island Cabin offers a remote wilderness experience on the northwest side of Green Island in Prince William Sound within the Chugach National Forest. The 16x20-foot cabin sits on a narrow peninsula between Gibbon Anchorage and the Sound, surrounded by spruce and hemlock forest with boggy muskeg openings. Access is exclusively by float plane (40 minutes from Cordova, 60 minutes from Seward) or boat (75 miles from Cordova, 70 miles from Whittier). The cabin sleeps up to six guests on wooden bunks and is fully wheelchair-accessible with ramps to both the entrance and the outhouse. Amenities include a table, benches, wood and oil stoves for heating, a rainwater catchment barrel, axe, splitting maul, and saw. There is no running water, electricity, cut firewood, or heating oil provided. Visitors must bring their own drinking water, #1 stove oil, and cooking equipment. Fishing opportunities abound in the surrounding creeks and waters. Pink salmon spawn in mid-July, coho arrive in August, and the area lakes hold cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden. Halibut and rockfish are accessible by boat in nearby ocean waters. Hunters can pursue Sitka black-tailed deer during the long hunting season. Wildlife viewing includes migratory waterfowl, sea otters, and occasional humpback and killer whales offshore.
