About

Log Jam Bay Cabin offers a remote wilderness experience on Montague Island in the Gulf of Alaska, approximately 65 miles southwest of Cordova. The 12x14-foot rustic cabin sits on 80-acre Stump Lake amid thick spruce and hemlock forest with muskeg understory. It sleeps up to six guests on wooden bunks and is equipped with an oil stove for heat (the wood stove was removed in July 2023), table and benches, splitting maul, saw, and a rainwater catchment barrel. Access is exclusively by aircraft, typically a 45-minute flight from Cordova or Seward. Float planes land directly on the lake beside the cabin. Wheeled planes land on the ocean beach at low tide, requiring a 3/4-mile hike to the cabin via trail. Lake freezing may restrict float plane access in fall, winter, and early spring. Fishing for cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden is excellent around the rocky points and pond lily beds. The cabin's rowboat is available for use, though guests must provide their own life vests. The Gulf of Alaska beach is under a mile walk away, offering beachcombing and ocean access. Sitka black-tailed deer and brown bear inhabit the island.

Directions

Access by float plane or wheeled plane only, approximately 45 minutes from Cordova or Seward. Float planes land on Stump Lake next to the cabin. Wheeled planes land on the ocean beach strip at low tide, requiring a 3/4-mile hike to the cabin via trail. Check tide schedules for wheeled plane access.
