About

Goose Bay Cabin sits on the western shore of Culross Island in a small lagoon within Goose Bay, surrounded by fragile muskeg, tall grasses, and mature Spruce and Hemlock trees. The 16x16 foot A-frame structure was newly constructed in 2021 after the original cabin was damaged by extreme snow loads. Views from the front porch reveal a small waterfall and gentle evergreen-forested slopes across the bay. The cabin is equipped with wooden bunks and a loft sleeping area for 6-8 people, a table with benches, shelving, a fire extinguisher, and an oil drip stove for heat that requires guests to supply kerosene (approximately 1-3 gallons per 24 hours). An outside pit toilet is available. There is no electricity, running water, or cell service. A fresh water source is accessible at low tide near the cabin, though water treatment is recommended. Access is by floatplane from Anchorage (approximately 45 minutes) or by boat from Whittier (approximately 25 miles). Goose Bay can be challenging to navigate at low tide, especially near the cabin where waters become shallow. High slack tide is ideal for arrival. The bay typically freezes over during winter months, reopening in mid to late March depending on temperatures.

Directions

No road access. By boat: Approximately 25 miles southeast of Whittier in Prince William Sound. From Whittier Harbor, head east out of Passage Canal and across Port Wells, then south into Culross Passage. Goose Bay is at the head of a narrow passage on the east side of Culross Passage directly across from Long Bay. The cabin is near a small waterfall on the east side of the bay. By floatplane: Approximately 45 minutes from Anchorage.
