Winter Weather Advisory issued April 1 at 2:20PM CDT until April 2 at 12:00PM CDT by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN
...MESSY SPRING SYSTEM BRINGS FREEZING RAIN, SLEET, AND SNOWTO PORTIONS OF MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY... .A powerful spring weather system will bring widespread precipitation to the region beginning tonight and lingering through Thursday, with areas of wet snow, freezing rain, sleet, and rain all expected depending on timing and location. Western and central Minnesota will experience mainly slushy wet snow with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, meanwhile rain is favored in southern and southeastern Minnesota. In between the snow and rain, a messy wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain will result in ice accumulations and slippery travel. There is still a moderate degree of uncertainty regarding ice accumulation amounts, due to temperatures being very close to freezing and a fluctuation of only a degree or two likely having a large impact on final amounts. The greatest impacts from icing and freezing rain will occur over western Wisconsin and portions of east-central to southwestern Minnesota, with accumulations up to a quarter inch in Minnesota and a few tenths of an inch in Wisconsin. Power outages are possible due to icing of power lines in addition to gusty winds, and slippery to impossible travel will occur where ice accumulates. Slow travel from wet slushy snow is expected in western and central Minnesota. * WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations up to two inches, sleet accumulations around one third of an inch, and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch. * WHERE...Sherburne, Wright, Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Blue Earth, Steele, Waseca, and Watonwan Counties. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to noon CDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday morning commute.
About
Rice Lake State Park Group Campground provides a secluded, primitive camping experience for groups of up to 60 people in southeastern Minnesota. The walk-in group site is nestled in a wooded area and accessed by a short walk of less than 60 yards from the dedicated parking area. The site includes multiple picnic tables, a fire ring, and a vault toilet, offering basic amenities in a rustic setting. The group campground is connected to the main campground by both road and trail, and provides convenient access to the park's extensive trail network. Campers can explore nearly five miles of trails that wind through towering oak forests, restored prairies, and along the shoreline of Rice Lake. The park is particularly popular for birdwatching, as the shallow lake and marshy edges attract abundant waterfowl during spring and fall migrations. Rice Lake State Park sits on land where American Indians once harvested wild rice, and today the 750-acre lake remains a major wetland area. The group campground's location offers a peaceful setting under tall hardwoods, with opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, fishing, and paddling. An Adirondack-style shelter located just east of the group campsite on a remote section of trail provides a quiet resting spot for hikers.
