The miscellaneous camping area at Myre-Big Island State Park offers year-round camping in southern Minnesota's diverse landscape. The park encompasses oak savanna, prairie grasslands, and extensive wetlands along Albert Lea Lake, creating prime habitat for migrating waterfowl and other wildlife. The 116-acre Big Island features mature maple and basswood forest, while the surrounding areas showcase restored prairie and savanna ecosystems. Visitors can explore 16 miles of trails that wind through varied terrain, including the Blazing Star State Trail which passes through the park. The park provides access to Albert Lea Lake for fishing and paddling, with boat launches and canoe rentals available. Wildlife viewing is exceptional during spring and fall migrations when hundreds of waterfowl utilize the park's marshes and lake shoreline. Myre-Big Island State Park maintains camping facilities year-round, though some amenities operate seasonally. The park offers accessible facilities and serves as a gateway to outdoor recreation in the Albert Lea area. Minnesota State Park permits are required in addition to camping fees.

Directions

From Albert Lea, Minnesota, take County Highway 38 southeast for approximately 3 miles to reach the park entrance. Follow the park's internal roads to access the various campgrounds and facilities.
