Nerstrand Big Woods State Park Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates from early April through mid-October. The park remains open for day-use activities year-round.

About

Located within one of Minnesota's few remaining Big Woods remnants, this campground provides a shaded retreat among mature maple, basswood, and oak trees. The main campground includes 51 drive-in sites, with 27 offering 30-amp electrical hookups and 24 non-electric options, plus one pull-through site. A modern, accessible shower building with eight showers and family restrooms serves campers seasonally. Four walk-in campsites offer a more secluded experience near parking areas, while three group sites accommodate larger parties. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. The park's 11 miles of wooded trails lead to Hidden Falls, a 20-foot limestone waterfall, and scenic boardwalks through sensitive wildflower areas where over 200 species bloom, including the federally endangered dwarf trout lily found only at this location. The campground provides access to an amphitheater, picnic shelter, and visitor center with exhibits on the park's natural and human history. Winter visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on designated trails, though the campground itself closes for the season.
