HENDERSONVILLE RESERVOIR RD ROADSIDE CAMPSITES

Open

Open for camping at designated sites only. Forest Order 08-11-07-23-163 requires all camping to be at marked locations depicted on official USFS maps. This restriction is in effect through September 1, 2026.

About

Hendersonville Reservoir Road Roadside Campsites are designated dispersed camping locations along FS Road 142 in the Mills River area of Pisgah National Forest. These primitive roadside sites serve as a base for exploring the surrounding trail network, including Fletcher Creek Trail which descends through forest to grassy camping areas along the creek. The Pisgah Ranger District implemented camping restrictions requiring all camping to occur only at designated sites marked on official Forest Service maps. This order covers Henderson County and prohibits camping within 1,000 feet of roads open to public vehicle travel except at these designated locations. The restriction aims to protect water quality in the Mills River watershed, where unregulated camping had caused erosion and stream degradation. These are primitive dispersed sites with no developed amenities. Campers should arrive prepared with their own water supply and plan to pack out all trash. Sites are available first-come, first-served with no reservations or fees.
