The campground is open for camping. Whitetail Campground closes seasonally from November 1 through April 30. The Illiniwek Trail is currently closed for trail improvements. Reservations are made through ExploreMoreIL.

Illini State Park encompasses 510 acres along the Illinois River between Marseilles and U.S. Route 6 in LaSalle County. The campground provides both tent and trailer sites with electric and sanitation service, some offering scenic river views. Two rustic cabins accommodate up to six guests each. A camp store offers supplies and laundry facilities, and a large outdoor pool operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park preserves rustic Civilian Conservation Corps buildings constructed during the 1930s and sits adjacent to historic waterways including the Illinois and Michigan Canal, completed in 1848, and the Marseilles Locks barge canal. Anglers will find abundant crappie, bass, bluegill, catfish, carp, and bullheads in the Illinois River, accessible via the park's boat ramp. Picnic areas and shelters feature tables, outdoor grills, drinking water, toilets, and playgrounds. Several shelters include working fireplaces. Winter activities include ice skating and sledding with a warming shelter available. Hiking trails showcase the park's diverse tree species and wildlife, while e-bike rentals provide another way to explore the grounds.
