About

Mokins Bay Campground is located near the eastern shore of Hayden Lake in northwest Idaho's Bitterroot Mountain range, known as the Coeur d'Alene mountains. This small, intimate campground offers solitude in a forested setting surrounded by a heavy canopy of pines. In springtime, wildflowers like trillium and buttercups create a stunning natural backdrop. The campground is approximately a 10-minute walk from the lake. Hayden Lake boasts a 40-mile shoreline with a surface area of 3,800 acres. The lake was formed by the Missoula Floods that occurred nearly 15,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. Fishing is popular in the surrounding lakes and streams, with cutthroat trout, large and smallmouth bass, northern pike, and Kokanee salmon among the most common catches. Power boating and other water sports are also popular activities on the lake. The campground features 16 campsites with amenities including drinking water from a hand pump, vault toilets, grills, and paved parking spurs. A horseshoe pit provides additional recreation. Access to the campground is via gravel road. The nearby town of Coeur d'Alene, approximately 21 miles away, offers restaurants, gas, groceries, and tourist attractions.
