About
The Magee Rangers Cabin is a historic two-story log cabin constructed in 1922 as living quarters for the Magee District Ranger. Located in the center of the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District at 3,000 feet elevation along Teepee Creek, the cabin and several surrounding buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The setting offers superb mountain views and convenient access to prime recreation trails. The cabin sleeps six guests with a full-size bed downstairs and four single beds upstairs. Amenities include drinking water, a propane stove, refrigerator, and propane heater. Two portable propane lanterns are provided, though guests must bring their own propane canisters. An unheated shower and flush toilet facility is located approximately 200 feet from the cabin. Guests should bring bedding, flashlights, food, a first aid kit, matches, insect repellent, towels, and dish supplies. Nearby recreation includes the Independence Creek Trail System with 34 miles of trails suitable for hiking, motorcycle riding, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Teepee Creek offers fly fishing for cutthroat and brook trout. The nearest telephone is about 25 miles away and the nearest grocery store is approximately 32 miles away in Prichard, Idaho.
Directions
From I-90, take Exit 43 (Kingston) and drive 24 miles north on Forest Highway 9 to Prichard Junction. Continue on Forest Road 208 for 28 miles to the end of pavement and start of Forest Road 6310, a rough gravel road with large rocks and potholes. Travel 7 miles on Road 6310 to the cabin. Approximate travel time from Coeur d'Alene is 2 hours.
