About
Minerva Lake Campsite offers a truly remote camping experience in Michigan's Upper Peninsula within Hiawatha National Forest. This single primitive site sits on the shore of 45-acre Minerva Lake, long recognized for its excellent largemouth bass and perch fishing. The campsite occupies a semi-open area measuring approximately 40 by 30 feet, nestled among hardwood trees and hemlocks. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out site with no toilets, no drinking water, and no developed amenities. Campers must be self-sufficient. An improved day-use boat launch with gravel base is located adjacent to the campsite, suitable only for small boats and trailers due to limited parking and turn-around space. Swimming conditions at the lake are rated poor. The access road crosses a short, steep hill and is narrow but passable for moderate-sized vehicles. The site accommodates tents or small trailers/RVs up to 16 feet. Campfires are permitted using only dead and down wood from the forest; outside firewood is prohibited to prevent Emerald Ash Borer spread.
Directions
From Cooks (about 12 miles west of Manistique or 24 miles east of Rapid River on US-2): drive north 4.4 miles on County Road 442 to CR 437. Turn left (north) on CR 437 and drive 14.4 miles to FR 2767. Turn right (east) and drive 0.25 mile to the campsite. The access road crosses a short, steep hill and is narrow but capable of handling moderate-sized vehicles.
