About

Bass Lake Campsite is a single dispersed camping location situated on the western shore of the expansive 290-acre Bass Lake within the Rapid River/Manistique Ranger District of Hiawatha National Forest. This rustic site is nestled among hardwood trees and offers a peaceful, secluded camping experience in a natural forest environment with minimal amenities. The campsite measures approximately 35 ft x 50 ft and is suitable for one small family trailer. Bass Lake is known for its excellent fishing opportunities, hosting healthy populations of northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and bluegills. A Michigan fishing license is required. While swimming is considered poor at this location, the lake's exceptional fishery makes it a popular destination for anglers. A developed boat launch is available on the eastern shore of Bass Lake, approximately four miles from the campsite. There is no back-in boat access directly at the campsite. The site is accessed via County Road 437 and Forest Road 2792. Gasoline, groceries, fishing and camping supplies, boat rentals, and licenses are available in Steuben, approximately three miles to the northeast. This dispersed campsite provides a wonderfully serene setting for campers seeking a rustic experience on one of the area's productive inland fishing lakes.
