About

Bass Lake Campsite offers a truly rustic camping experience on the western shore of a 290-acre inland lake in Hiawatha National Forest. This single dispersed campsite is nestled among hardwood trees and provides a serene, peaceful setting for campers seeking solitude. The site measures approximately 35x50 feet with a pull-through driveway and 20-foot overhead clearance, suitable for tents, small trailers, or RVs up to 16 feet. Bass Lake is renowned for its fishery, hosting northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and bluegills. A Michigan fishing license is required. Swimming conditions are considered poor. There is no back-in boat access at the campsite, but carry-in access is available for site users. A developed public boat launch is located on the eastern shore of Bass Lake, approximately four miles away via FR 2633. This is a primitive site with no potable water, restrooms, or other amenities. Campers must be self-sufficient and bring their own water. Campfires are permitted using dead and fallen wood from the area. Bringing firewood from home is prohibited to prevent the spread of Emerald Ash Borer. Gasoline, groceries, fishing supplies, boat rentals, and licenses are available at Steuben, approximately three miles northeast on County Road 437.
