About
Carr Lake Campsite provides a wonderfully serene camping experience on a small 16-acre lake within the Rapid River/Manistique Ranger District of Hiawatha National Forest. The campsite is fairly roomy at approximately 70 by 40 feet and grassy, making it suitable for two families seeking a rustic forest environment. Nestled among hardwood trees and pines, this dispersed campsite offers excellent privacy and seclusion. The lake is accessible only by carry-in watercraft, and a boat slide has been constructed to accommodate small boats and canoes. Anglers will find fisheries for largemouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, and the occasional brook or brown trout in Carr Lake, while Carr Creek upstream and downstream offers good fishing for brook and brown trout. The campsite operates on a pack-in, pack-out policy with no drinking water provided. Campers can collect dead and downed firewood from the surrounding area. Located about 16 miles north of Cooks via County Road 442, CR 437, and Forest Road 2217, the site offers a truly rustic experience with minimal amenities. Groceries, gasoline, and camping supplies are available five miles northeast on County Road 437 in the Thunder Lake Area.
